California Native Plant Lecture
Come join us for an evening of learning Tuesday, February 21 as we explore California native plants and their benefits. The presenter will be author and California native plant expert Greg Rubin. His presentation will touch on most aspects of native landscaping, including basic ecology, design techniques, plant selection, site preparation, irrigation, layout, planting, and maintenance. Important differences between ornamental horticulture and native ecology will be emphasized. There will also be special attention paid to the severe threat that Argentine ants/sucking insects pose to native plants, and how they may have been a leading (but little recognized) cause of native plant mortality as long as natives have been popular gardening subjects. This event is a joint collaboration between Casitas and California Native Plant Society Channel Island. The event will be held at Topping Room E.P. Foster Library 651 E. Main St in Ventura. Doors open at 7 pm and admission is free.
