Application for Molluscicide Treatment
Post Date: 06/27/2025
Casitas Municipal Water District is applying for coverage under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Permit for Biological Pesticides and Residual Chemical Pesticide Discharges to Waters of the United States from Aquatic Invasive Species Control Applications (General Permit CAG 990006, Water Quality Order No. 2016-0041-DWQ). Coverage under the NPDES permit allows for the use of pesticides such as Molluscicides in order to manage or control invasive aquatic species like Quagga, Zebra or Golden Mussels.
The District has maintained a robust prevention and monitoring program in Lake Casitas since 2007 and has not detected any evidence of an infestation of dreissenid (i.e. Quagga & Zebra) or Golden Mussels. There are currently no treatments scheduled.
The District is applying for coverage under this permit in order to allow for swift action and consider all options under the Lake Casitas Mussel Rapid Response Plan should an infestation be discovered and verified.
